Pulse Shape Discrimination of low-energy nuclear and electron recoils for improved particle identification in NaI:Tl

نویسندگان

چکیده

The scintillation mechanism in NaI:Tl crystals produces different pulse shapes that are dependent on the incoming particle type. time distribution of light from nuclear recoil events decays faster than for electron and this difference can be categorised using various Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD) techniques. In study, we measured recoils a crystal, with equivalent energies between 2 40 keV. We report new PSD approach, based an event-type likelihood; outperforms charge-weighted mean-time, which is conventional metric NaI:Tl. Furthermore, show linear combination two methods improves discrimination power at these energies.

Measurements of Scintillation Efficiency and Pulse-Shape for Low Energy Recoils in Liquid Xenon

Results of observations of low energy nuclear and electron recoil events in liquid xenon scintillator detectors are given. The relative scintillation efficiency for nuclear recoils is 0.22 ± 0.01 in the recoil energy range 40 keV 70 keV. Under the assumption of a single dominant decay component to the scintillation pulse-shape the log-normal mean parameter T0 of the maximum likelihood estimator...

Discrimination between Nuclear Recoils and Electron Recoils by Simultaneous Detection of Phonons and Scintillation Light

We have developed a detector, consisting of a cryogenic calorimeter with a scintillating crystal as absorber, and a second calorimeter for the detection of the scintillation light, both operated at 12 mK. Using a CaWO4 crystal with a mass of 6 g as scintillating absorber, we have achieved a discrimination of nuclear recoils against electron recoils with a suppression factor of 99.7% at energies...

Electron-nuclear recoil discrimination by pulse shape analysis

In the framework of the " ULTIMA " project, we use ultra cold superfluid 3 He bolometers for the direct detection of single particle events, aimed for a future use as a dark matter detector. One parameter of the pulse shape observed after such an event is the thermalization time constant τ b. Until now it was believed that this parameter only depends on geometrical factors and superfluid 3 He p...

Modification of Lindhard Energy Partition for Low Energy Recoils in Germanium and Silicon for Detectors Due to Electron – Phonon Coupling

One of the methods of direct detection of the massive component of dark matter is the registration of self-recoils in semiconductor detectors at cryogenic temperatures after the WIMPs scattering. In this contribution, after a short presentation of Lindhard curves, derived from the integro-differential equations of the general theory, we discuss the discrepancies between experimental data and th...
